CAMPBELL, Tenn.
— A lion cub was killed by a family cat and a python was found hiding in the attic of their safari-style condo in Tennessee.
The kitten was found dead Monday in the condo’s living room, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
The family, who lives in an RV park in Campbell, told authorities the cat escaped and attacked the kitten.
The cats owner called 911.
When deputies arrived, they found the kitten dead, said Shelby County Animal Control Officer Jennifer Meeks.
The owner of the pet had been taken into custody, but she was not charged.
The cat had been a stray since March.
A rescue team had been monitoring the area with a camera, Meeks said.
The couple was not home at the time of the attack.
The mother of the kitten, who is a resident of the condo, is expected to appear in court Tuesday on charges of animal cruelty and animal neglect.
The lion cubs owner was not injured.
“This cat was just trying to do his job,” Meeks told ABC News.
“It was just a lucky accident, but he was in a good position to catch the kitten.”
The kitten’s name is Wynn and the mother is Mimi.
She was taken into the care of a rescue team, but Meeks did not know if they will ever be reunited with the cat.
